The Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen launched a Garbage Bag Program in 2021.
This mandatory program has shown to have a positive impact on keeping recyclable materials out of landfills while helping to protect the environment.
Keep it simple. Sort your recyclable materials properly, compost when possible, and throw away the remaining waste. Protecting our planet is important for our present and for our future.
Bag tags will continue to be required for disposal of garbage in a clear bag, or just a privacy bag for both curbside collection, or at the Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Transfer Stations.
How to begin:
Sorting your material!
Properly sort your recyclable materials into your blue boxes (fibres bin and containers bin). We highly encourage composting when possible either in your own backyard or by taking your loose compost and organic materials to the 6th Line Transfer Station. Place all other waste into your clear garbage bag. If your bag contains more than 10% recyclable material, collectors have the right to refuse it.
Placing your materials curbside!
Garbage may be set out for collection in the following ways:
- Place the clear bags (30lbs or less) in a garbage can - One (1) privacy bag can be included in your clear bag.
- In clear bags (30lbs or less) - One (1) privacy bag can be included in your clear bag.
- In a privacy bag: a privacy bag is a small grocery sized bag which may be opaque (non see-through) to shield private items.
If you only produce as much garbage as would fit within your privacy bag, the privacy bag can be left at the curb for collection or dropped off at the Transfer Station without placing it inside of a clear bag. Garbage tags are required for a privacy bag on just as they are for a full (30lbs) clear garbage bag.
