Electoral Ward System Survey
Our Ward System, what’s your position?
Council is reviewing the electoral ward system within the Township and is seeking input from the community regarding a possible change. Public consultation is integral to this review process. To that end, a Ward System survey was inserted into your interim tax bill, which were recently mailed out. We ask that you complete the survey, mail, or drop the survey off to the municipality office. Alternatively, you can complete the Ward System survey online, see link below.
This past fall, Bob Angione, CAO and Clerk, completed a comprehensive and informative Report to Council on the Electoral Ward System. To review the report, see link below.
There are three (3) possible options regarding the composition of the electoral ward system in the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen:
- Leave the electoral ward system unchanged.
- Redraw the boundaries of the two current wards to allow for an equal number of eligible voters in each ward.
- Eliminate the ward system and elect all Members of Council at-large whereby all eligible voters within the entire Township would be casting ballots for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and three Councillors.
