Multi-unit Building Fire (Havelock Village)
Last evening, Tuesday April 23rd residents of Parkview, a multi-unit building located at 37 George St E, Havelock, were evacuated due to fire. Thankfully, no one suffered injury and all residents found shelter with friends and family or were placed in temporary housing until more permanent arrangements can be made. Please note, the fire scene and building site are off limits to everyone except OPP and Fire services personnel.
HBM Council and staff wish to thank Havelock Fire & Emergency Services, Peterborough County OPP and EMS for their quick response and containment of the fire. As well, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the Havelock Centre, Havelock Lion's Club, and Havelock Seniors Club who opened their doors to displaced residents and first responders. In addition, our thanks to all those who generously donated clothing, bedding, non-perishable items, and more.
“Our community’s greatest strength is its generous spirit and willingness to help. The outpouring of donations and caring of this community is inspiring.” stated Mayor Jim Martin.
Over the next days and weeks, the township will support community-based volunteers who have committed to organizing/coordinating donations already in-hand, as well as those that continue to flow in. That said, Peterborough Housing Corporation is meeting with the Parkview residents and will share a list of their needs within the next 48-hours. We respectfully ask that you please hold off donating items until we know what those needs are. Stay tuned for updates and instructions on that front.
Thank you.
