FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peterborough County Remains in a State of Emergency Following Severe Storm

Peterborough County remains in a declared State of Emergency due to the significant impacts of the recent storm. The County’s Emergency Operations Command (EOC) will continue meeting throughout the weekend to assess the situation and coordinate recovery efforts.

“This has been a difficult and unsettling time for our community,” said Peterborough County Warden Bonnie Clark. “We understand the challenges many are facing, and we remain committed to supporting our residents as we recover from this storm.”

Hydro One crews are working diligently to restore electricity. Residents are reminded to stay at least 10 metres away from any downed power lines and report them immediately to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235. Please limit travel to essential trips only to allow Hydro One and Public Works crews to continue cleanup efforts safely and efficiently.

Hydro One crews, Public Works teams, and emergency responders are working tirelessly to restore power, clear roads, and ensure public safety. Residents are urged to remain patient and show appreciation for these essential workers as they carry out their critical tasks.

While the significant weather event has ended, winter storm impacts and hazardous road conditions persist in some areas. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling and to stay informed through official County communication channels.

Warming Centres are available in each township throughout the County. These centres provide access to showers, charging stations, water, and other essential services. For a complete list of warming centres, visit www.ptbocounty.ca/stormupdates or contact your local municipal office.

Peterborough County extends its gratitude to all frontline workers, volunteers, and residents for their resilience and cooperation during this challenging time. Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves. Residents are encouraged to tune in to local radio stations for emergency updates.
