Road Closure Notice - County Rd 48 (George St E)
[See QBT Excavating & Services Phase 2 of the Construction on George Street update below.]
JEWELL ENGINEERING PROGRESS REPORT
As I’m sure most of you have noticed, some detour signage has been put in place. This year’s work will commence from where we left off, just west of Victoria Street, and continue westerly towards Oak Street. The portion of George Street to the East of Victoria can be accessed via Orange Street from Hwy #7. George Street will be closed East of Oak Street. Residents can access their homes from Oak Street at the outset, however, as the work progresses westerly access will not be possible from Oak Street. There will be times when you will not have access to your home. In such cases parking passes will be provided allowing you to park on nearby public areas thus avoiding any tickets. Feel free to touch base with construction personnel, to acquire the permit, if we haven’t approached you in advance.
The process of removing the retaining walls will begin on Monday April 21st, followed by installation of the temporary watermain. Once the temporary watermain has been chlorinated and tested, a temporary connection to your existing water service will take place. Groundwater control measures will also be installed.
Please be advised; there will be limited access to this portion of George Street during the week of April 21st to April 25th. The following week, and thereafter, this portion of George Street will be completely closed to through traffic.
In the interest of safety to all, please refrain from accessing the construction area.
Thank you in advance.

Phase 2 of the Construction on George Street
Phase 2 of the Construction on George Street will start April 21, 2025, and is planned to be completed by late summer 2025.
Hard Closure – Reconstruction of underground infrastructure will involve open-trench excavation beginning at the Victoria Street intersection. This will be a hard closure on both sides of the excavation, meaning no through traffic will be permitted. The closure location will move westward as the underground work progresses.
Soft Closure – Soft closures will be in place at both Oak Street and Victoria Street. These are intended to deter through traffic while still allowing access for local residents and businesses.
Vehicle Access – When excavation is directly in front of your residence or business, access to your driveway may be limited or temporarily unavailable. Parking instructions have been provided, and our crews will give advance notice when you will be affected.
Foot Traffic – Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. You will not be restricted from accessing your home, local businesses, or walking along the street. In rare cases, we may need to temporarily remove a walkway and reroute foot traffic. If this could affect you, we will inform you in advance and accommodate any special needs.
QBT Excavating & Services would like to thank you in advance for your patience in this next Phase of the Reconstruction of George St. We are looking forward to providing you with improvements on surface and underground work to enjoy for the years to follow.
